Sustainable Building with Stabilized Compressed Earth Blocks
PaVerde's mission is to supply local communities with high quality, low-embodied carbon structural blocks for construction affordably. We will work with contractors, developers, and retailers to bring better wall systems into being. Our business model is to be an OEM while we improve the methods of making to be cost-competitive and scalable.
What Are Stabilized Compressed Earth Blocks?
Stabilized compressed earth blocks (SCEBs) are eco-friendly building materials made from a mix of soil, water, and a stabilizer like cement or lime. Compressed into solid blocks, they offer durability, thermal insulation for sustainable wall systems. As Jim Hallock, a leader in SCEB construction, often asks: "Who wants a home that is sound proof, insect proof, fire proof, bullet proof, and hypo-allergenic?" With advanced construction techniques, you can also add "at a competitive price"
How to Use Them
SCEBs are primarily intended for use as a wall system for dwellings less than twenty feet tall. While most blocks can withstand the loads of much taller structures, the precendent for construction set in New Mexico building code, makes approvals simple for single and two-storey structures.
As the blocks are both the structural support and the vapor barrier for the dwelling, they are always bonded with a continuous mortar. In most cases, the mortar is sanded cement. Other materials, such as epoxy, are also used.
How to Buy
For contractors and individuals, PaVerde offers direct sales of SCEBs by the pallet (90 blocks). For now, PaVerde serves the Albuquerque NM area. Contact us via email or phone. The operation is ramping now so availability is limited.
